The amendments to Annex I and Annex II of the Hong Kong Basic Law were approved by all members of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress with a unanimous vote of 167, and took effect on March 31. The National People’s Congress passed a decision on the 11th of this month to amend Hong Kong’s electoral system, increasing the number of seats in the Legislative Council from 70 to 90. It consists of three sectors: the Election Committee, functional constituencies, and regional direct elections. After the law was amended, the electoral committee sector won 40 seats and the "functional constituency" 30 seats. Regional direct elections have reduced 20 seats from the previous 35 seats.
