A serine-threonine kinase implicated in DNA repair

Transcription-coupled nucleotide excision repair (TC-NER) is crucial to repair DNA damage that blocks RNA polymerase II.

The researchers demonstrate that human serine/threonine-protein kinase 19 (STK19) as a TC-NER factor, which is essential for correct DNA damage removal and subsequent transcription restart.

They show that STK19 is an integral part of the RNA Pol II-TC-NER complex thereby stimulating RNA polymerase II ubiquitylation and correct TFIIH binding.
