How bacteria controls host lipid droplets

The intracellular bacterial pathogen Coxiella burnetii secretes an effector protein, CbEPF1.

The researchers show that CbEPF1 localizes to the host endoplasmic reticulum, LD biogenesis sites, and LD surfaces.

CbEPF1 interacts with VAMPassociated protein (VAPs) in the ER and mediates inter-organelle contacts between ER and LDs via FFAT motifs and thus modifies host LD metabolism by increasing both LD number and size.
