What Is Community-Acquired Pneumonia?

A lung infection caused by pathogens like bacteria, viruses, and fungi and contracted outside of a hospital is called community-acquired pneumonia (CAP).
Fever, chills, cough with or without sputum (mucus in the lower airway), shortness of breath, chest pain, confusion, and fatigue are common symptoms of CAP.
Treatment include, a 3-day course of oral antibiotics or combination oral antibiotics for those with multiple medical conditions.
