Immune-neural crosstalk after burn trauma

White adipose tissue (WAT) remodeling and hypermetabolism are triggered following burn injury but the mechanisms remain unclear.

The researchers show that burn injury induces macrophage Ccl12 production, which activates CCR2+ T cells to release nerve growth factor (NGF) and remodel sympathetic innervation in adipose tissue.

The authors demonstrate that the disruption of this pathway through Ccl12 neutralization or T cell deficiency impairs WAT browning.

Thus, this immune-neural circuit drives thermogenic browning and provides a potential therapeutic entry point for mitigating hypermetabolism.
