Mechanism of cognition in Parkinson’s disease
Cognitive impairment in Parkinson’s disease is attributed to white matter lesions but the mechanism is not well understood.
The authors show that show that periventricular white matter lesions contribute to cognitive decline in Parkinson’s disease by disrupting cholinergic projections from the basal forebrain.
The researchers postulate that white matter lesion may act as a biomarker for predicting cognitive trajectories in Parkinson’s disease.
