Mitochondrial-derived microproteins

Mitochondria have their own genome.

New mitochondrial-derived microproteins (MDPs) are being discovered with myriad physiological effects. Mitochondrial-derived microproteins (MDPs) are similar to, but different from, nuclear-encoded microproteins.

As the field matures, more information about their mechanisms of action is opening new avenues of research.

New techniques are being developed to help more efficiently identify additional MDPs.
