Axonal guidance and regeneration
The researchers highlight that one barrier of neuronal circuit reconnection lies in incorrect pathfinding of regenerating axons in the mature brain.
Using the retina/suprachiasmatic nucleus circuit, they show that manipulating guidance signals enables regenerating axons to reinnervate their initial brain target, with synapse formation, neuronal activation, and functional recovery.
