Light signaling by TZP in plants
TANDEM ZINC-FINGER/PLUS3 (TZP) is a conserved plant protein discovered by quantitative trait locus mapping in arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) with a unique combination of intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs), zinc-finger and PLUS3 domains.
TZP interacts with nuclear complexes and modulates plant adaptive responses to diverse light regimes, including hypocotyl elongation and flowering.
In blue light TZP induces gene expression that positively regulates hypocotyl elongation. The red-light receptor phytochrome B (phyB) recruits TZP to transcriptional nuclear bodies. TZP stabilizes phyB protein and photobody formation influencing plant growth.
The far-red photoreceptor, phyA, triggers the liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) of TZP through its IDRs. TZP condensates facilitate phyA phosphorylation and inhibition of hypocotyl growth by recruiting PHOTOREGULATORY PROTEIN KINASES (PPKs).
