Neuroinflammation from secreted neurofilament light chain
Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is a commonly used biomarker in neurodegenerative disease.
The researchers describe the mechanism of release from degenerating neurons.
They also demonstrate that loss of NfL reduces inflammation in a mouse ALS model and that NfL exposure causes cytokine release and transcriptional changes in immune cells.
