Post stroke differential roles of astrocyte-induced vascular remodeling

Role of astrocytes in post stroke tissue repair is not well understood.

Uding transcriptional analysis, the researchers identify and profile zones of reactive astrocytes after two clinically distinct forms (cortical and white matter) of ischemic stroke, revealing similarities and differences.

Astrocytes in cortical, but not white matter, stroke drive vascular remodeling, partially through a Lamc1-dependent mechanism.

They also show that exogenous induction of Lamc1 in white matter astrocytes improved vessel remodeling and repair and triggered differential T cell infiltration post stroke.
