Increase cancer risk with obesity
Obesity and overweight conditions are associated with higher rates of cancer and various cancers including endometrial, esophageal, gastric, kidney, colorectal, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, prostate, postmenopausal breast, ovarian, and thyroid cancers are linked to obesity.
Energy storage is disrupted in obesity and excess energy in the form of fatty acids is used by cancer cells.
Adipose tissue (fat) dysfunction include inflammation and altered hormone production, both of which promote cancer growth.
Inflammation and oxidative stress also promote the gut disturbances and overgrowth of bacterial populations associated with cancer development in preclinical models (eg, Bilophila).
