Cannabis use on brain health

People using cannabis develop mental health issues that needs to be managed appropriately.

Most commonly used cannabis, Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), may not improve symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder or reduce anxiety as per the current evidence.

THC use on the contrary may have substantial risk for adverse mental health effects. Regular use of high THC-content products by adolescents and young adults is associated with increased risk of psychosis, a higher risk of  cannabis use disorder (CUD), and self-harm in those with mood disorders.

Caution should prevail while prescribing and using cannabis to treat various mental health disorders.
