Palmitoyl-protein thioesterase-1 in health and disease
Palmitoyl-protein thioesterase-1 (PPT1) is an enzyme that removes palmitate from proteins to regulate their function.
PPT1 has an established role in CLN1 Batten disease, a compelling role in some cancers, and an emerging role in autoimmune diseases.
More broadly, PPT1 has been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases and infertility.
With the development of PPT1- targeted therapeutics in progress, further investigation of this protein could be beneficial for an array of common and rare indications.
