Visualizing contact between cells and between processes originating from a single cell
Cell-cell contacts are essential for communication and signal transduction and in this study the researchers have developed Gachapin and Gachapin-C, two reversible indicators for cell-cell contact dynamics.
Gachapin enables multiplexed imaging of intercellular contacts alongside cytoskeletal and signaling activities and the formation and disruption of contacts between neuronal processes can be visualized. .
Gachapin-C provides more specific visualization of self-contacts within a single cell.
These tools reveal contact assembly and disassembly in real time.
