Direct neuronal conversion of somatic cells by microRNAs

Erasure of the starting cell fate is a key process underlying direct neuronal conversion. 

The researchers reveal that microRNAs 9/9* and 124 induce a neuronal fate across multiple somatic cell types,

The authors identify common gene networks repressed by these microRNAs that define non-neuronal identity. The authors identify  among the regulators, TP53 (p53), whose inhibition is sufficient to enhance neuronal conversion even in post-mitotic cells.
