Diverse cargoes of a nuclear export receptor

CRM1 (also known as XPO1) is the best characterized nuclear transport receptor.
CRM1 exports very diverse cargoes out of the nucleus, including proteins and protein-RNA complexes.
Cargoes interact with a characteristic NES-binding groove and with other regions of CRM1.
Recent work also shows that CRM1 can directly interact with RNA and probably also with DNA.
Nearly every HEAT repeat of CRM1 contributes to multivalent interactions with its binding partners.
