Mechanism of antidepressant effects of theta burst stimulation
Neural mechanisms of accelerated intermittent and continuous theta burst stimulation (a-iTBS and a-cTBS) for treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is not clearly known.
The researchers explored how a-iTBS and a-cTBS treat medication-resistant depression in 40 TRD patients and 40 healthy controls (HCs)..
Both treatments restore abnormal frontoparietal network excitability. It further identifies the left inferior parietal lobule (IPL) as a key region of therapeutic efficacy.
These findings identify neural circuitries that support personalized brain stimulation strategies.
