Gut-lung axis in early lung defense and repair

After helminth infection, circulating group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) constitute a third of all lung ILC2s but their origin and their relationship with ILC progenitors and tissue-resident ILC2s remain unclear.
The researchers show that circulating group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s) rapidly migrate from the intestine to the lung after helminth infection.
These early responders bolster type-2 immunity and barrier repair, highlighting a key gut-lung axis and distinguishing them from bone marrow-derived and tissue-resident ILC2 populations.
