Targeting metastatic cascade

The spreading of tumor cells from the site of origin to other organs and tissues is termed metastasis, which is considered as the main cause of cancer-related death.
Metastasis involves several steps, from angiogenesis to secondary tumor formation and interventions at one or more of these steps could lead to the decline or cessation of metastatic progression.
The authors in this review describe current treatment modalities in the context of multiple steps of the metastatic cascade. They also highlight their mechanisms and present their efficacy across multiple cancers.
This review also identifies additional targets within the metastatic cascade that may advance the landscape of treatments and lead to the goal of metastatic cancer remission.
